Muck Rack Pricing 2026: What PR Teams Actually Pay

Public plan structure, contract data from 80 purchases and four review platforms, checked against the live site on October 9, 2026.

Summary

Muck Rack pricing is quote-only: Starter, Standard and Premier, with no public numbers. Vendr's data from 80 purchases puts the median contract at $13,000 a year, with a range from $8,000 to $20,860, and buyers report anything from $3,500 to $53,000. Ratings are strong on G2 (4.5/5, 535 reviews) and TrustRadius (8.2/10), softer on Capterra (4.2/5). Our verdict: 7.0/10, a sound platform for teams with steady outreach, hard to justify for solo budgets.

7 /10

Muck Rack is a PR platform that combines a journalist database, media monitoring and reporting, and it publishes no prices. Vendr's data from 80 purchases puts the median contract at $13,000 a year. G2 gives it 4.5 out of 5 across 535 reviews, but coverage gaps and seat costs come up repeatedly. Verdict: 7.0/10. Worth quoting for teams with weekly outreach, a poor fit for solo budgets.

  • Rated 4.5/5 on G2 across 535 reviews, with ease of use and database quality as the top praised themes
  • Database, pitching, monitoring and reporting live in one workspace, so no second subscription for alerts
  • Instructor-led onboarding and a named customer success contact from the Standard plan upward
  • No public price list and no self-serve trial, so you cannot budget before a sales call
  • Reviewers on G2 and TrustRadius report missed articles in coverage reports and duplicate journalist profiles
  • Add-ons, extra seats and renewals push the real bill above the first quote

Methodology

How we built this pricing review

Version tested
Live muckrack.com pricing and product pages, audited October 9, 2026
Test period
2026-10-09 → 2026-10-09
Test categories: Live plan and feature-gating audit • Contract data from procurement benchmarks • Buyer-reported quotes • Cross-platform review aggregation

This is a desk audit, not a hands-on licence test, and we say so up front because Muck Rack does not offer a self-serve trial. On October 9, 2026 we loaded the live pricing page and captured our own screenshots of the homepage, pricing, media database, monitoring and reporting pages. We read the feature table plan by plan to see what each tier actually unlocks. For money, we used Vendr's anonymized contract data (80 purchases), a list of 24 buyer-reported quotes collected by Rephonic, and public posts from PR practitioners. Several of those sources sell competing tools, so we treat their averages with caution and lean on the transaction data. For satisfaction we read G2 (535 reviews), TrustRadius (35), Capterra (25) and checked Trustpilot, where Muck Rack has no reviews at all.

Should you request a Muck Rack quote?

YES if you...

  • In-house comms or agency teams running outreach to journalists every week
  • Teams that want monitoring, reporting and a media database under one contract
  • Buyers with a $10,000+ yearly budget and someone to negotiate the renewal

NO if you...

  • Solo content marketers with occasional pitching (the Starter plan still sits in four-to-five-figure territory)
  • Teams that need a published price and a free trial before talking to sales
  • Anyone whose main need is AI writing rather than media relations

Muck Rack pricing: the three tiers and what we could verify

Muck Rack lists plan names and features but no prices. Dollar figures below come from third-party data, not from the vendor.

Basic access

Starter

Quote per year, annual contract

Aimed at individuals

  • Media database search and media list building
  • Online article search with email and Slack alerts
  • Pitching with email integrations and PressPal.ai
  • Limited media list exports, template-only dashboards
  • Self-led onboarding and pooled customer success
Most flexible

Premier

$25,000+ high-end band in third-party guides, not a Muck Rack figure

Aimed at enterprises and advanced teams

  • Everything in Standard, plus Curation Engine and newsjacking opportunities
  • AI-powered sentiment, custom dashboards, customizable PR Hit Score
  • Inbound media manager, newsletters, Google Analytics integration
  • API available as an add-on for Premier customers

ROI breakdown: At the Vendr median of $13,000 a year, a team sending 40 pitches a week pays about $6.25 per pitch before any coverage result, and a five-person team at $25,000 sending 40 pitches each per week pays about $2.40 per pitch. The break-even only holds if the database saves hours of manual research on every campaign.

Hidden costs & gotchas
  • Add-ons are separate: print and broadcast monitoring, social listening, press release distribution, API, Media Intelligence and Generative Pulse
  • Vendr reports add-ons lifting contract value by 10% to 30% and onboarding fees of $1,000 to $5,000 for some buyers
  • Renewal quotes typically rise 5% to 15% unless a cap is negotiated up front
  • Extra seats mid-term cost more per seat; one TrustRadius reviewer was offered a new seat at $2,500 instead of a $400 contract extension
The pricing page

Three plans, two audiences, zero prices

The pricing page asks you to pick Brands or Agencies, then shows Starter, Standard and Premier with a Contact us button under each. The feature table underneath is the only hard information: it tells you where the plan lines are drawn. Podcast monitoring, AI journalist recommendations and AI visibility badges start at Standard. Custom dashboards, the Curation Engine and the API sit at Premier. Muck Rack's own FAQ says pricing depends on the number of users and calls the proposal customized.

  • Three brand plans and three agency plans, all quote-only
  • Annual contract, with seat count as the main price driver
  • Six add-ons listed below the table, none with a price

Reporting

Where the platform tries to justify its price

Reporting is where Muck Rack argues that PR is measurable: coverage reports, dashboards, share of voice and a customizable PR Hit Score. The tier gap matters here. Starter and Standard get template dashboards, while custom dashboards and the PR Hit Score are Premier only. Reviewers like the output, but several note that coverage reports miss articles from some outlets.

  • Coverage reports in every tier, sized by plan pack
  • Custom dashboards only on Premier
  • Interactive presentations and newsletters only on Premier

Pros and cons

Pros

  • High satisfaction on the largest review sample G2 shows 97% of 535 reviews at four or five stars. Ease of use (74 mentions) and database quality (51) lead the praise.
  • One workspace for research, outreach and measurement Pitching tracks opens and clicks, and monitoring feeds the same coverage reports, so teams do not stitch three tools together.
  • Human data team on top of the software Reviewers mention that the internal team updates journalist profiles on request, and journalists maintain their own profiles.

Cons

  • No public pricing and no self-serve trial You need a sales call and a demo to get any number. Competitors such as Prowly publish theirs and offer a trial.
  • Coverage gaps in monitoring and reports G2 lists incomplete media coverage (16 mentions) and data inaccuracy (21); TrustRadius reviewers cite missing placements in reports.
  • Costs grow with seats, add-ons and renewals Vendr reports 10% to 30% from add-ons and 5% to 15% renewal increases; one reviewer was quoted $2,500 for a single added seat.
  • AI list-building still draws complaints A G2 reviewer in October 2026 said AI-built media lists rarely matched the journalists wanted, even with detailed prompts.
Verdict

Final verdict

7 /10

Muck Rack earns its reputation with the people who use it daily. A 4.5 out of 5 on 535 G2 reviews, an 8.2 out of 10 on TrustRadius and consistent praise for ease of use and support point to a product that works as described. The platform is strongest when a team pitches journalists weekly and wants monitoring and reporting in the same place.

The price is the weak spot, and not because it is high. It is unknowable until you are in a sales process. With a median of $13,000 a year and quotes from $3,500 to $53,000, a team can land anywhere in a 15x range, and add-ons, extra seats and renewal increases move the number again after signing. Treat the first quote as an opening position. Vendr's data shows buyers saving 17% on average.

Buy it if outreach is a weekly habit and a named customer success manager has real value to you. Skip it if you pitch a few times a quarter, or if what you actually need is AI-assisted writing; a smaller PR tool or a general AI assistant will cost a fraction of the price. Bring a competing quote and a cap on renewals to the call.

Common questions about Muck Rack pricing

How much does Muck Rack cost?
Muck Rack does not publish prices. Vendr's data from 80 purchases shows a median contract of $13,000 a year, ranging from $8,000 to $20,860. Buyers report anything from $3,500 for one seat to $53,000 for seven to nine seats.
Does Muck Rack offer a free trial?
Not publicly. The company offers a personalized demo of 30 to 45 minutes with no obligation. Muck Rack is free for journalists, who can build a profile and use some tools at no cost.
What are the Muck Rack plans?
Three plans for brands and three for agencies: Starter (basic access, for individuals), Standard (most popular, for most PR teams) and Premier (most flexible, for enterprises and advanced teams).
Is Muck Rack worth the price for a small team?
Only with steady weekly outreach. Vendr data puts teams of 1 to 5 users at $10,000 to $25,000 a year, and G2 reviewers on small budgets call the cost high for an individual user. Cheaper tools with published prices cover lighter needs.
What is the Muck Rack contract length?
Annual contracts are standard, according to third-party pricing guides, and there is no monthly option. Multi-year terms can lower the per-seat rate, and Vendr advises negotiating a cap on renewal increases.
Does Muck Rack include an API?
Yes, as an add-on available to Premier customers. A G2 reviewer from a large enterprise described the API as quite expensive and wished it came inside a premium package.
What are the main alternatives to Muck Rack?
Meltwater (4.1/5 on G2 from 2,674 reviews), CisionOne (3.9/5, 1,354 reviews), Prowly (4.2/5, 111 reviews, published pricing from $258 a month) and Prezly. Cision and Meltwater also use quote-based pricing.
How accurate is the Muck Rack journalist database?
Reviewers rate database quality highly, with 51 G2 mentions as a strength, but 21 mention data inaccuracy and some report duplicate profiles that support has to merge.
